While physical and mental health often take the spotlight, social wellness is just as essential. The focus about is building meaningful relationships, feeling a sense of belonging, and having support systems that help us all thrive, especially in times of stress or uncertainty.
Social wellness refers to our ability to create and maintain meaningful relationships. Those relationships provide emotional support, improve our resilience and even our physical health.
Community events does more than just create a fun time for everyone. It builds on real connections and those relationships have a direct link on our health. Heater it is sharing a meal, moving together in a fitness class, or learning about Nutrition in a group, these moments bring people together, spark conversation and reduce isolation. According to the CDC, studies show that strong social ties can lower stress, improve heart health, and even help us live longer.
Through our programs at Sorogi, we have seen how powerful community events can be in strengthening these connections. Our cooking classes, for example, do more than teach nutrition. They create a space for people to gather, learn, and share stories. Participants often tell us that the simple act of preparing a meal together opens doors to new friendships and healthier habits. Similarly, our group fitness classes promote not just physical movement, but a sense of camaraderie and accountability. Wellness becomes more attainable when it is a shared journey.
Education is another cornerstone of social wellness. Our SNAP-Ed initiatives and nutrition workshops invite conversation, collaboration, and a shared sense of purpose. These sessions provide more than just information, they create a space where residents can ask questions, share experiences, and support one another in building healthier lives.
This July, we invite you to take small steps to strengthen your own social wellness. Join a Sorogi event. Reach out to someone you have not spoken to in a while. Attend a class or invite a neighbor to come with you. Because health is not just what we eat or how we move, but it is also how we connect.
At Sorogi, we believe that stronger relationships build stronger communities. And when we care for one another, we all thrive.
